This Might Be Wrong and what feedback tells you about
Hello from NYC!
I have already lost counted how many weeks it has been since I last stepped outside of my building. :)
This Might Be Wrong
An astute reader might notice a difference in the newsletter title. The old title (Paoponder) is the same as my blog title (also, Paoponder). When I write drafts for each, I often get them mixed up. Hence, the new name
Why "This Might Be Wrong"? I like this name because 1) it reminds me that whatever I write about could turn out to be wrong and 2) it reminds the readers to take caution in reading what I write.
This new title loosens my writing and allows me to express my thoughts boldly. I feel less pressured to forsake interesting ideas for what is "true". This doesn't mean that I will start writing whatever nonsense that comes to my mind. Just that, often being interesting is more fun than being right. Again, this might be wrong.
What feedback tells you about?
"Feedback doesn't tell you about you; it tells you about the person giving the feedback." -- Tara Mohr
We tend to tie feedback to ourselves even though it is probably the least relevant. Next time you receive feedback, deconstruct it. Think first about what it tells you about the other person, then think about the thing you delivered, and save what it tells you about yourself last. After that, pick the pieces that are useful to you and discard the rest.
Until next time!
